I wonder whether Greg Feldwick aka Slugabed will ever upgrade his studio setup. The London based musician is still adamant that everything released is fully composed through Fruity Loops 4, with an added splash of an external drum sampler to develop the sounds. I wouldn’t exactly class the studio software in the same way as the seminal TR-808 drum machine, but the years of using and abusing has given him a real inside-out knowledge and have had his peers scratching their heads over just how he does it.

On first listen the Moonbeam Rider EP really isn’t too different to last year’s Ultra Heat Treated EP or in fact dissimilar to much of his back catalogue. Slugabed stays true to his notions, studiously creating layers of thick compressed synths that warp and bubble through the bottom end whilst fizzing and sparkling over the top.

The attention towards refining these layers of refreshing sounds is incredible, and fits along well with artists such as Rustie, Joker, Ikonika et al. In some respects it can be too subtle to grab the attention of a fly-by listener. But there is a lot going on. Take ‘Moonbeam Rider’; it crackles, hisses, and sounds actually a little seedy and 80s before a pumping semi-funk bass/beat combo. It has a real swagger, and there must be about 6 different melodies simultaneously playing over the lurching hip-hop beat. Compare that with ‘Heck Flex’ and you get a different mood, a semi-trance, bit-crushed vibe that sounds a little melancholy.

With its slightly humorous vocal sample ‘My Sense of Smell Comes And Goes’ furthers this glitchy 8-bit sound before the short ‘Nu Krak Swing’ and its obvious hint towards the fusion genre of the late 1980s/early 1990s. Maybe that track is a sign of things to come.

After a busy couple of years of touring, remixing and releasing singles and EPs with Brainfeeder, All City, Magical Properties (the Daedelus home-imprint), Alpha Pup, Warp and Stones Throw, Alfred Darlington aka Daedelus returns with his new full length album on Ninja Tune, Bespoke. The first single from the album is, suitably, 'Tailor-Made', both titles summing up the unique and eccentric vision of a musical artist as obsessed with the clothing of the Victorian era as he is with the music of the future.

"Tailor-Made" is a delicious amalgam of wiggly keyboard lines, four-to-the-floor kicks, drum box flourishes and woozy, beautiful vox from Milosh. It builds and builds into a frenzied, ecstatic Daedelesque finale which will have you itching for the full album. Remix duties are taken care of by Tokimonsta and Floating Points.

Tailor-Made is just a taster of an album that features vocal talent "from all around this current music mess" (as Darlington puts it). The record includes contributions from acclaimed soul singer Bilal, Inara George (The Bird and The Bee), Busdriver (fast rapper taking a turn singing), Anticon beatmaker Baths, debutant Kelela Mizanekristos and Amir Yaghami as Young Dad. In addition, Yaghami also played guitar on much of the record, Om’mas Keith of Sa Ra contributed keyboards and Alfred's Uncle Pete (aka Pete Curry of surf band Los Straitjackets) played most of the drums. Unsurprisingly, everything fits perfectly...

Raffertie releases his first EP for Ninja Tune and it instantly establishes this young producer as a name to watch in electronic music. Not for Raffertie the arid choices of 'post-dubstep' (how to sell out and when?). A young music producer of exceptional confidence and rigour, Raffertie instead makes electronic music to explore the boundaries of the possible. The Visual Acuity EP displays newfound maturity whilst keeping the nuances and character that mark him out as a true individual.

Both intensely cerebral and stupidly banging, "Visual Acuity" may fake being an aural equivalent of ADHD, but there is purpose to every twist and turn in this huge tune, the way that Raffertie pulls the music in and out of focus giving rise to its title. ''You could be forgiven for thinking that'' is more visceral than the opener, shot through with unexpected emotion. ''Twitch'' needs to played on very large speakers to be fully appreciated, Raffertie claiming that it is a piece 'to be felt as much as heard'. Despite its name, ''Mimetic'' copies nothing, instead creating a feeling very much like being in the head of a reveller as she waits for The Drop.

Benjamin Stefanski aka Raffertie has never been one to be tied down to any particular genre or scene. He has experimented with numerous styles, displaying the depth and sophistication of his production skill across releases for Planet Mu, Black Acre and Super for which he has received accolades from the likes of Simon Reynolds, Huw Stephens and Mary Anne Hobbs, who first championed Raffertie on her BBC Radio 1 Experimental show in 2008. Recognised both as an innovative producer and stand out DJ, the young talent has a reputation for performances filled with his typical dynamic energy that has seen him play across Europe; from Fabric to Space, Ibiza.

Graduating in 2010 with a degree in Classical Music Composition, Raffertie spent the summer refining the next stage in his continuing stylistic progression. He will release his debut artist album on Ninja Tune in early 2012.

Twenty two year old Alex Lloyd (aka Deco Child) was walking through Battersea one day, looking at the ground, when in front of him, scraped into the pavement with the edge of a coin, he saw the word, "PRAY". As well as inspiring the track of the same name, it stands as a fitting metaphor for what the electronic musician does - scratching away at the edifices of recorded music to express emotion, exhilaration, devotion. Deco Child makes beautiful, emotional electronic music. Pray itself is blessed with a swelling sense of euphoria, tinged with a kind of wonder that will remind you of heart-quickening revelations made behind a 2 a.m. cigarette. Nocturne takes a different direction, Lloyd layering Ben Dodson's pristine vocals over delicate romantic piano before flinging them out into space, dropping a deep, dub-tinged groove which loses none of the earlier section's emotional heft. The original tracks get a diverse set of treatments at the hands of the remixers... With a strong focus on melody that places his sound in the company of Four Tet and Floating Points, Deco Child has already remixed Dan Le Sac and counts These New Puritans amongst his fans. Jak na porządnego dealera dźwięków przystało, donoszę przedpremierowo o nowym Ninj'owym wydawnictwie.
Są gitarki, sympatyczna elektronika, kobiece wokale, krzepiące downtempo'we bity. Jestem po kilku przesłuchaniach, wniosków kilka.
Joe Corrales, producent z Texasu nic nowego nie odkrywa, nie robi też nic na siłę. Jeżeli jesteście zmęczeni tempem rozwoju muzyki, szukacie stabilnej, melodyjnej elektroniki, na której można by na dłużej zawiesić ucho ''Eighty one'' sprawi Wam sporo przyjemności.
